Collecting Stargate Autographs & Memorabilia

The Stargate television franchise ran for well over a decade, and its ensembles have been convention regulars ever since — a gift for the patient collector.

Stargate SG-1 (1997 onward) and its spin-off Atlantis gave the franchise two full ensemble casts and a long run of episodes, which means a deep and steadily available pool of autograph material — much of it signed in person at genre shows.

The SG-1 team is the classic starting point: Richard Dean Anderson (Jack O'Neill), Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson), Amanda Tapping (Samantha Carter) and Christopher Judge (Teal'c), with Don S. Davis (General Hammond) among the recurring command staff; Davis has since died, which affects how his signatures reach the market.

Atlantis and beyond

The Atlantis cast broadened the field again, with Joe Flanigan (John Sheppard) and David Hewlett (Rodney McKay) among the signers collectors seek. Because Tapping and others crossed between series, some performers appear on material from more than one show, and a "team" collection can quickly span both casts.

Team photos

Full-team stills are a popular target and reward patience to assemble signed.

Character portraits

Single-cast signed stills are the most common and accessible format.

Convention pieces

Stargate reunions are frequent; most genuine material has an in-person origin.

Collecting notes

Stargate's strength for collectors is availability — the casts sign often — but that same volume rewards care about where a signature came from:

  • Favour in-person provenance. With so many convention signings on record, there is little reason to accept a piece with a vague history. See our conventions page.
  • Assemble team pieces one signature at a time where you can. Adding signatures across successive signings gives you first-hand knowledge of each one.
  • Cross-check crossover signers. Tapping and others appear on both SG-1 and Atlantis material; make sure the signature matches the era.
  • Use certificates as a starting point only. Our authentication guide covers how to judge provenance beyond the paperwork.

Collectors of ensemble sci-fi TV often pair Stargate with Babylon 5 and the Star Trek series, which share the same show circuit.
